Sandyston Construction was awarded the subcontract for construction of the SOE for the 131 Street Project <SPECIFY> in White Plains, New York.
The perimeter bordered by streets; this excavation wall is composed of interlocked sheet pile, driven by a Junttan hydraulic pile driver. The steel piles were 50 ft. NZ14 Z-sheet. One side of the excavation ran adjacent to an existing structure, and for this side the NZ14 were cut and driven to elevation by an excavator-mounted Movax model SP-80 side grip vibratory pile driver.
Tiebacks and bracing were installed to secure the sheet and complete the earth retention system. R76 hollow-bar was used as tiebacks.
Site access was a consideration for construction due to a bus terminal that required no interruption of access and terminal traffic. Worth noting – although it was not under the Sandyston contract, a 4′ slab foundation was to be poured as a spread footing pending completion of the SOE portion of the project.
